While mora than 50 million Americans struggle with sleep daily, a new survey found that more than half of American adults have lost sleep over at least one money issue, with almost one in three missing that vital rest over day-to-day expenses.The survey, conducted by Bankrate, had more than 2,500 adults participate in the sleep-study to find out why Americans are losing out on sleep daily.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreEveryday expenses are what kept Americans up most at night, with 32% dwelling on it and losing shuteye. Nearly a quarter said saving enough money for retirement and health care or insurance bills kept them wondering at night.Sleep greatly impacts mental health and physical health, and mental health also impacts sleep, said Dr. Gail Saltz, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical College, in a press release. Not getting enough sleep can impact mood, increase depression and increase anxiety.Nearly 20% of Americans were left thinking late about their credit card debut and others via expenses like mortgage or rent payments and education. When it comes to trying to cut down the debt, more than half of Americans said they were pessimistic about successfully paying off their debt.When broken down by generation, Generation Xs sleep was most affected by financial woes with 64% reported losing sleep over money, while 58% of Millennials and 54% of Baby Boomers were affected by money worries.
